A novel fluid heat transfer agent suitable for use in a closed heat transfer system, for example, wherein heat energy is transferred between an evaporator and a condenser in heat exchange relationship with the heat transfer agent that is caused to flow from one to the other. The novel heat transfer agent is a complex comprising a body of heat transfer fluid, for example, ethylene glycol or water, having suspended therein carbon nanoparticles in a quantity sufficient to enhance the thermal conductivity of the body of heat transfers fluid, per se. The carbon nanoparticles are selected from carbon in the form of sp2 type and sp3 type bonding and preferably comprise nanotubes or fullerenes and may have a coupling agent bonded thereto or enclosed therein when the nanotube or fullerene forms a hollow capsule. The coupling agent may be a polar organic group covalently bonded to the carbon nanoparticles and miscible in the fluid medium.

L'invention concerne un agent de transfert thermique pour fluide utilisable dans un système de transfert thermique clos dans lequel, par exemple, l'énergie calorifique est transférée entre un évaporateur et un condenseur, en relation d'échange calorifique, l'agent de transfert thermique passant de l'un à l'autre. Cet agent de transfert thermique est un complexe constitué d'un support fluide de transfert thermique, par exemple de l'éthylène glycol ou de l'eau, contenant en suspension des nanoparticules en quantité suffisante pour améliorer la conductivité thermique du support de transfert thermique lui-même. Les nanoparticules de carbone sont sélectionnées à partir de carbone sous la forme de liaisons de type sp?2¿ et sp?3¿ et comprennent de préférence des nanotubes ou des fullerènes et peuvent contenir un agent de couplage qui leur est lié ou enfermé à l'intérieur lorsque le nanotube ou le fullerène forme une capsule creuse. L'agent de couplage peut être un groupe organique polaire lié aux nanoparticules de carbone par covalence et miscible dans le support fluide.
