A biocompatible inorganic porous material having a three-dimensional coexistent network of interconnected macropores and nanopores produced by the steps of mixing an organic water-soluble polymer (e.g., polyethylene oxide or a block copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide), an alkoxysilane, and an inorganic water-soluble calcium salt in an aqueous acid solution, such that a sol-gel process of hydrolysis and polycondensation is initiated and thereby producing a gel; drying the gel to remove solvent by evaporation; and heating the gel to remove the polymer by thermal decomposition, thereby forming an inorganic porous material, which may be suitable for use as a bone tissue scaffold.

L'invention concerne une matière poreuse inorganique biocompatible ayant un réseau coexistant tridimensionnel de macropores et de nanopores interconnectés, laquelle est produite par les étapes consistant à mélanger un polymère organique soluble dans l'eau (par exemple du polyoxyde d'éthylène ou un copolymère en blocs de l'oxyde d'éthylène et de l'oxyde de propylène), un alcoxysilane et un sel de calcium inorganique soluble dans l'eau dans une solution aqueuse acide, de façon à ce qu'un procédé sol-gel d'hydrolyse et de polycondensation soit amorcé et à produire de cette manière un gel; sécher le gel pour enlever le solvant par évaporation; et chauffer le gel pour enlever le polymère par décomposition thermique, ce par quoi on forme une matière inorganique poreuse, laquelle peut convenir pour être utilisée en tant que matrice de tissu osseux.
