Novel naphthol derivatives represented by the formula (I) Image (I) wherein each of R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, represents hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, or phenyl optionally substituted with at least one member selected from alkyl, halogen, alkoxy, haloalkyl, nitro, cyano and alkoxycarbonyl or benzyl optionally substituted with at least one member selected alkyl, halogen, alkoxy, haloalkyl, nitro, cyano and alkoxycarbonyl, or R1 and R2 are bonded together at their ends to form alkylene, or R1 and R2 are bonded together at their ends to form alkylene containing an oxygen; each of R3 and R4, which may be the same or different, represents alkyl, alkoxy or halogen; X represents CH or nitrogen; Z represents CH or nitrogen; W represents oxygen or sulfur; each of Y1, Y2 and Y3 which may be the same or different, represents hydrogen, alkyl, halogen or alkoxy; have an excellent herbicidal activity and excellent selectivity to crops with weeds and therefore, can be used as an active ingredient for herbicides.
