A novel naphthothiazepine derivative of the formula: Image wherein R1 is a lower alkoxy group, R2 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkanoyl group, and R3 and R4 are the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, are disclosed. Derivatives of the formula (I) and salts thereof are useful as hypotensive agents and/or coronary or cerebral vasodilators.
