Novel 8-aryl-1,7-naphthyridines, in free or salt form, are PDE IV inhibitors and are thus useful as pharmaceuticals, e.g. for asthma therapy. Preferred compounds include compounds of formulae (I and II) wherein the R groups are as defined. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds, processes for preparation of the compounds and novel intermediates for use in the processes are disclosed.

Nouvelles 8-aryl-1,7-naphthyridines, sous forme libre ou sous forme de sel, inhibant la PDE IV et donc utiles comme produits pharmaceutiques, p. ex. pour le traitement de l'asthme. Les composés préférés comprennent les composés des formules (I et II), dans lesquelles les groupes R sont conformes au descriptif. L'invention porte également sur des compositions pharmaceutiques contenant les composés, sur les procédés de préparation des composés et sur de nouveaux intermédiaires à utiliser dans ces procédés.
