A device (60) for pulsed delivery of inhaled nitric oxide (NO) (68) to a spontaneously breathing patient. The device (60) delivers NO (68), e.g., through a nasal cannula (81), only during the inspiratory phase of the breathing cycle. The device (60) automatically executes a purge cycle when it is initially activated and when the time between breath-triggered NO pulses reaches a predetermined time limit. The purge cycle protects the patient from exposure to NO2 that otherwise would accumulate in the fluid lines (80) from reaction of static NO with oxygen in the air.
L'invention concerne un dispositif (60) permettant l'administration pulsée de monoxyde d'azote inhalé (NO) (68) à un patient respirant naturellement. Ledit dispositif (60) permet l'administration de NO (68), notamment par une canule (81) nasale, uniquement lors de la phase d'inspiration du cycle respiratoire. Le dispositif (60) exécute automatiquement un cycle de purge au moment de son démarrage et lorsque l'intervalle de temps entre les impulsions de NO déclenchées par la respiration atteint une limite de temps prédéterminée. Le cycle de purge protège le patient contre une exposition au dioxyde d'azote, qui, sinon, s'accumulerait dans les lignes (80) de fluide suite à la réaction du NO statique avec l'oxygène de l'air.
