A navigation apparatus has a position measuring device to determine a current position. The device stores a map as image data and displays a map image on a display. Coordinates are assigned to at least one reference location on the map.Either coordinates are assigned for a second reference location, or the map image is aligned with a reference direction, to establish a coordinate latitude longitude system for the map image. The current position in then displayed on the map image.

Le dispositif emmagasine une carte sous forme de données d'image et affiche une image-carte sur un écran. Des coordonnées sont attribuées à au moins un point de référence sur la carte. Des coordonnées sont attribuées pour un deuxième point de référence ou l'image-carte est alignée sur une direction de référence, afin d'établir un système de coordonnées en latitude et en longitude pour l'image-carte. La position réelle est alors affichée sur l'image-carte.
