A sleeve shaped neck protector engages around the neck of the wearer and is defined by a continuous wall surrounding the neck with an open top and open bottom for passing over the head of the wearer. The sleeve is formed from a first elastic fabric material and a second non-stretchable Kevlar fabric. The sleeve is stretchable in the circumferential direction with a sufficient stretchability so as to allow the sleeve member to stretch to pass over the head of the wearer onto the neck. The first fabric is folded at a top edge to form an inner layer and an outer layer with the second fabric therebetween. The inner layer, outer layer and the second fabric are all stitched together at the bottom edge of the sleeve together with a front bib portion and a rear spine portion. The elastic fabric stretches to the extent of the kevlar to allow the sleeve to pass over the wearer's head and then contracts to hold the sleeve against the wearer's neck with the kevlar fabric puckered between the layers.
