ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Necked-down bolt for connecting thermal shock- stressed structural parts. A thermally conducting packing encloses the reduced diameter portion of the bolt and sub- stantially fills-up the air gap between the reduced diameter portion and a borehole wall in order to increase the heat transfer to the bolt and accordingly reduce the heat stresses in the bolt.
