A needleless injection site allowing infusion and withdrawal of fluid therethrough is disclosed. When a compatible blunt male fluid connector fitting is inserted, fluid flow is accommodated; but upon withdrawal of the connector, the injection site is sealed against fluid flow. The injection site includes an elastomeric plunger having first and second ends and having an annular seal portion at a selected distance from the first end, movably contained within a fluid passageway through a housing having first and second ends, and biased towards a first position in sealing contact with the housing at the first end. The housing also has at least one fluid bypass opening into the passageway intermediate the ends a selected distance from the first end. Insertion of a compatible male fitting in the first end of the injection site moves the plunger to a second position where the annular seal portion of the plunger is located adjacent the fluid bypass opening. This allows fluid flow through the passageway, bypassing the seal portion through the fluid bypass.
