A kit for converting an existing pay telephone 10 to additionally provide computer network access 40 includes an upper housing unit 14 that latches to a lower housing 12 of the existing telephone 10, and a network adapter unit 50 which includes a network computer 54 and a control module 56 that selectively disables a hook switch 20 connection to a payphone electronics module 24 of the existing payphone 10. A coin scanner and an escrow unit of the existing payphone 10 are connected through the control module 56 to the payphone electronics unit 24. The network computer 54, in combination with the control module 56, provides a stand by mode 82, a pay phone mode 84, and a network mode 86. Also disclosed are a complete network access pay telephone 40 and a method for converting the existing payphone 10 to add network access 40.
L'invention concerne un dispositif destiné à la conversion d'un téléphone public existant (10) en vue de le doter d'un accès à un réseau informatique (40). Ce dispositif comprend une unité de boîtier supérieur (14) s'accrochant sur un boîtier inférieur (12) du téléphone existant (10), ainsi qu'une unité d'adaptateur de réseau (50) comprenant un ordinateur de réseau (54) et un module de commande (56) désactivant sélectivement une connexion par crochet commutateur (20) à un module électronique (24) de ce téléphone existant (10).
