NETWORK SIGNALLING PROTOCOL FOR COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM Abstract of the Disclosure A network signalling protocol for transmitting signalling and control information from each station to one or more other stations over a common transmission line. At each station the protocol comprises transmitting in a commonly recognized sequence at least a header signal in a uniquely allocated time slot, thence marking each time slot in which no signal was transmitted and thereafter transmitting at least the header signals sequentially so as to eliminate the marked time slots in which no signal was transmitted.
