A process for adding an amine having a pKa of between and 8 to a petroleum refinery distillation unit for the purpose of neutralizing acidic species contained in the hydrocarbon feedstock. The use of these amines raises the dew point pH sufficiently to prevent corrosion of the metallic surfaces of the overhead equipment while reducing the potential for the precipitation of amine salts.
