The invention relates to a neutron-absorbing material and to its production process. This material comprises a homogeneous, boron carbide matrix 1 in which are dispersed e.g. pseudospherical, 150 to 500 µm , calibrated clusters 3 of boride such as HfB2, in order to prevent the propagation of cracks F in the material and improve its thermal shock resistance.

L'invention concerne un matériau absorbant les neutrons et son procédé de fabrication. Ce matériau comprend une matrice homogène (1) de carbure de bore dans laquelle sont dispersés des amas calibrés (3), par exemple pseudosphériques de 150 à 500 mu m, en borure tel que HfB2, afin d'empêcher la propagation de fissures (F) dans le matériau et d'améliorer sa résistance au choc thermique.
