An invention is disclosed which pertains to components for gel coat compositions, a process for making such gel coat compositions, and a process for making gel coated articles. Low molecular weight unsaturated polymers which incorporate multiple pendent and/or terminal acrylic or methacrylic vinyl groups are made by the addition polymerization of acrylate/methacrylate monomers with epoxy acrylates such as glycidyl methacrylate, followed by ring opening of the oxirance via action of a (meth)acrylic acid in combination with a ring-opening catalyst to produce the final unsaturated polymer. Gel coat compositions containing such polymers possess improved rheological properties and may be used to create durable in-mold coatings for articles requiring good hydrolytic stability and UV resistance.
L'invention porte sur des composants pour compositions à base d'enduit gélifié, leur procédé de fabrication et un procédé permettant de fabriquer des articles revêtus d'un tel enduit. Les polymères non saturés à bas poids moléculaire comprenant des groupes vinylacrylique ou méthacrylique libres et/ou terminaux sont obtenus par polymérisation par addition de monomères acrylates/méthacrylates comportant des époxyacrylates tels que le méthacrylate de glycidyle, puis par l'ouverture du cyclde de l'oxyrane par l'action d'un acide (méth)acrylique combiné à un catalyseur d'ouverture de cycle. On obtient ainsi le polymère non saturé final. Les compositions à base d'enduit gélifié contenant de tels polymères présentent des propriétés rhéologiques améliorées et peuvent être utilisées pour créer des revêtements surmoulés durables destinés à des articles nécessitant une bonne stabilité hydrolitique et une bonne résistance aux UV.
