Use of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) as a therapeutic and in a method of treating, reducing, or ameliorating an injury selected from an ischemic injury, an ischemic-reperfusion injury, and a toxin-induced injury, to an organ in a patient. The invention includes administering to the patient NGAL in an amount effective to treat, reduce or ameliorate ischemic, ischemic- reperfusion, or toxin-induced injury to the organ, such as the kidney. A siderophore can be co-administered with the NGAL. The invention also relates to administering a sideophore to enhance a response to secretion of NGAL following an ischemic or toxin-induced injury to an organ in a patient.
L'invention concerne l'utilisation de la lipocaline associée à la gélatinase neutrophile (NGAL) comme agent thérapeutique ainsi qu'un procédé de traitement, de réduction ou d'amélioration de lésions telles que les lésions ischémique, les lésions de reperfusion ischémique, ainsi que les lésions provoquées par une toxine, dans un organe du patient. L'invention consiste à administrer au patient une dose efficace de NGAL pour traiter, réduire ou améliorer la lésion ischémique, la lésion de reperfusion ischémique ou la lésion provoquée par une toxine dans un organe, tel que le rein. Un sidérophore peut être coadministré avec la NGAL. Par ailleurs, l'invention concerne l'administration d'un sidérophore pour améliorer la réponse à la sécrétion de NGAL suite à une lésion ischémique ou à une lésion provoquée par une toxine dans un organe du patient.
