Abstract of the Disclosure An alkali metal chloride salt which has been used as a cover in a process where nickel matte is purified by chloridization, is leached rapidly with an aqueous solution of nickel chloride and alkali metal chloride. This enables impurities such as Fe, Cu, Co to be removed from the salt, without removing the nickel which is needed upon recycling of the salt.
