L'invention concerne un procédé pour extraire la nicotine et le goudron présents dans des feuilles hachées ou non de tabac séché. Ce procédé comprend une étape de trempage du tabac dans une solution aqueuse contenant 0,5 g/litre et moins de 2 g/litre d'acide salicylique ou d'un de ses dérivés. Le tabac ainsi trempé est ensuite drainé pour éliminer la solution dans laquelle la nicotine et le goudron ont été solubilisés. On procède ensuite à au moins un rinçage pour éliminer toute trace de solvant. L'invention concerne aussi le tabac traité selon ce procédé ainsi que l'utilisation d'une solution aqueuse d'acide salicylique ou de ses dérivés à cette fin.
