ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed herein are biocidal concentrate compositions suitable for applications where substantial human or animal contact is anticipated; and also their method of use and process of preparation. The compositions comprise a stabilized 3-isothiazolone reaction product containing a ring-stabilizing amount of a stabilizing soluble nitrate salt and at least one biologically active 3-isothiazolone of the formula Image wherein R and R' are independently selected from hydrogen, halogen or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; Y is an alkyl group of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group of 5 or 6 carbon atoms, an aralkyl group of up to 8 carbon atoms, or an aryl or substituted aryl group of 6 carbon atoms, said 3-isothiazolone reaction product containing less than 100 parts of a nitrosamine of the formula Abstract Image and its precursor YNHCH2CH2CONHY, wherein Y is as defined above, for about each 150,000 parts of biologically active 3-isothiazolone.
