A no-turn tool for use inline in a tubing string in a well bore for impeding rotation of the tubing string in an undesired direction. The tool consists of a tool body and a lug mounted at a side of the tool body that is pivotable between a projecting position and a retracted position and resiliently biased in the projecting position. Ribs project from the tool body opposite the lug. When the tool is installed in a tubing string in a well bore, contact between the lug and well-bore wall during rotation in the undesired direction tends to cause the lug to pivot towards the projecting position so as to bring the lug and ribs into frictional contact with the well-bore wall, thus impeding further rotation in the undesired direction.
