A method of detecting a nodule in a three-dimensional scan image comprises calculating a three-dimensional sphericity index for each point in the scan image (12 - 16), applying a high sphericity threshold to the sphericity index (18) to obtain a candidate nodule region, and then performing region-growing (20) from the candidate region using a relaxed sphericity threshold to determine an extended region including less spherical parts connected to the candidate region. Optionally, spherical filtering may be applied to the image by matching the spherical filter to the extended region.

L'invention concerne une méthode de détection d'un nodule, dans un image tridimensionnelle obtenue par balayage. Cette méthode consiste à: calculer un index de sphéricité tridimensionnelle pour chaque point de l'image obtenue par balayage (12, 16), appliquer un seuil de sphéricité élevé à l'index de sphéricité (18) pour obtenir une zone de nodule candidate, puis effectuer un agrandissement de zone (20), à partir de la zone candidate, au moyen d'un seuil de sphéricité relâché, pour déterminer une zone plus étendue comprenant moins de parties sphériques reliée à la zone candidate. Eventuellement, un filtrage sphérique peut être appliqué sur l'image, en faisant correspondre le filtre sphérique à la zone plus étendue.
