ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for reducing noise in a color video signal includes a delay or storage device for storing a single television frame, and means for combining the signal stored in the storage device with the arriving video signal for producing an output video signal containing a fractional amplitude portion of the stored signal and a fractional amplitude portion of the arriving signal, the system being operative automatically to change the fractional amplitude portions of the two signals in complementary fashion as a function of the difference between stored and arriving video signals, which difference, signifying motion, is ascertained by pixel-by-pixel comparison of the stored and arriving video signals. To prevent the system from incorrectly interpreting certain types of noise as motion, the chrominance component is removed from the stored and arriving video signals before they are compared.
