Abstract of the Disclosure There is disclosed a noise reduction system for improving the signal-to-noise ratio of a color television video signal by utilizing an inter-frame correlation of such signals. Such systems prevent the formation of an afterimage or lag that could otherwise result from such a correlation when a fast moving object is being shown and the known systems use variable attenuators which must have plural sets of transmission factors, introducing a degree of complexity which the invention seeks to overcome. In this invention, a video signal is stored for a period of time equal to the period of one television frame, producing a stored signal. Motion between the stored signal and the subsequent video signal is detected and there is pro- duced as a result a frame-to-frame difference signal to which is further introduced a non-linear transmission-factor. This factor is dependent upon the level of the frame-to-frame difference signal. The frame-to-frame differ- ence signal, as varied by the non-linear transmission-factor, is added to the subsequent video signal with the result of an improvement in the signal- to noise ratio of that signal.
