-25- ABSTRACT A system for suppressing residual noise in the processing of an input signal having a slowly varying residual noise level component and a rapidly varying data component therein is disclosed. The system includes a first circuit having input and out- put portions for respectively receiving the input signal and outputting the data component thereof. A second circuit is provided in the system which is coupled to the input portion of the first circuit for adding to the input signal a slowly varying negative signal to substantially eliminate the residual noise level component from the input signal and provide an output signal corresponding essentially to the rapidly varying data component of the input signal. A third circuit is provided in the system for sensing the output signal; and, a fourth circuit is provided in the system which is responsive to the sensing of a negative value in the output signal for rapidly adding a positive signal to the signal being processed in order to prevent the output signal from going further negative.
