ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A non-A, non-B hepatitis-associated antibody that shows a specific antigen-antibody reaction with a non-A, non-B hepatitis-associated antigen obtained by isolation and purification from the liver of a warm-blooded animal infected with type non-A, non-B hepatitis and having the following physicochemical properties: molecular weight: 1,500,000 or more (gel filtration) sedimentation constant (10-13) 51.5S (ultracentrifugal analysis) buoyant density (g/cm3): 1.15 - 1.25 (in cesium chloride and in potassium bromide) particle diameter (nm): 26 - 37 electrophoretic mobility: .alpha.2 - .alpha.1 globulin region (in agarose). The antibody of the invention is used to form a detection reagent for detecting the presence of non-A, non-B hepatitis-associated antigen.
