A process is provided for sequentially extracting lipids from unsaponifiable plant material. The process consists of dissolving the plant material in an aprotic solvent, then precipitating a first lipid, a phytosterol. A second lipid, a tocol, is recovered from the supernatant by distillation to remove the aprotic solvent. The solvent can be reused to dissolve further plant material.
