ABSTRACT An acid buffer composition containing a weak acid and its conjugate metal salt is added to a calcium based completion and well servicing brine to maintain the pH of the brine between approximately 3.5 and 5.5. This prevents subterranean formation damage in oil and gas wells by avoiding calcium precipitation in wells in which the brines are used.
