ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A support assembly for displaying a banner on a non-vertical flagstaff includes a base support for holding the base edge of a banner in fully extended condition, and an adjustable length deflector element extends at a substantially right angle to the length of the support element, from a point between the ends of the support element. The free end of the deflector element is attachable to the fabric of the flag at a central point within the flag's outer peripheral borders. The deflector element is formed of stiffly flexible, resilient material such as piano wire, and it is coupled to the support element by means of a guide bracket that includes a guide channel for resiliently bending the deflector element through a right angle turn. Dimensions of the guide channel and the deflector element are selected so that the deflector is free to slide telescopically within the channel, for the purpose of slidably varying the length of the portion of the deflector between the free end and the support element. At the end of the deflector opposite to the free end, a projection extends at a substantially right angle to the length of the deflector to engage a selected one of a plurality of longitudinally spaced-apart mating holes formed along a portion of the length of the support element. When the free end of the deflector has been slidably positioned in a desired location relative to the support element, it can be releasably retained in that position by anchoring the right angle projection in one of the spaced apart holes, relying on the resilience of the normally elongate straight deflector to bias it into the hole until it is manually withdrawn. By adjusting the distance between the free end of the deflector and the base edge of the flag, the support assembly may be adjusted specifically to various sizes of flags and various support angles between horizontal and vertical, to assure that the flag will "drape" naturally while at rest, and will also be relatively free to "wave" naturally under wind forces without risk of furling about the flag staff.
