An in vivo non-invasive method of tissue classification using near-IR (NIR) spectral measurements. A classification model is based on NIR spectral absorbance measurements from an exemplary population. Spectral features representing variation between tissue types are identified. Analytic techniques enhance the features of interest and correct spectral interference to improve the predictive ability of the classification model. A classification routine defines classes based on variation between tissue types, such that variation within a class is small compared to variation between classes. A decision rule assigns individual samples from the exemplary population to classes. An in-vivo non-invasive procedure applies the classification model to individual tissue samples. A preferred embodiment of the invention distinguishes transgenic mice from non-transgenic individuals based on variation in fat composition within muscle tissue.

L'invention porte sur une méthode in vivo non invasive de classification des tissus recourant à des mesures spectrales dans l'IR proche. A cet effet on utilise un modèle de classification basé sur des mesures de l'absorption spectrale de l'IR proche dans une population témoin, et on identifie les caractéristiques spectrales représentant les différences entre les types de tissus. Des techniques d'analyse spectrale mettent en relief les caractéristiques d'intérêt et corrigent les interférences spectrales pour améliorer les capacités prévisionnelles du modèle de classification. Un programme de classification définit les classes en fonction des différences entre les types de tissus, les différences entre tissus d'une même classe étant faibles comparées aux différences entre classes. Une règle décisionnelle répartit les échantillons individuels de la population témoin en classes. Un processusin vivo non invasif applique le modèle de classification à des échantillons individuels de tissu. Dans l'exécution préférée, l'invention distingue les souris transgéniques des souris non transgéniques en fonction de variations de la composition des graisses des tissus musculaires.
