ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION There is provided a new and useful non mechanical electronic switch for a pedestrian crossing light comprising a housing with side walls and an end wall, an AC capacitive sensor operatively mounted on the end wall of the house and circuitry electrically associated with the capacitive sensor to be electrically connected in operation to the crossing light, the sensor actuatable on detecting in its vicinity the hand or the like of a pedestrian to activate the circuitry to operate the crossing light.
