This invention relates to orthopedic implants (10, 50, 90, 100, 140, 190, 250, 280, 300, 320, 340, 360, 370, 380, 400 and 440) and to methods of treating bone defects. More specifically, but not exclusively, the present invention is directed to non-metallic implants and to methods for intra-operative assembly and fixation of orthopedic implants to facilitate medical treatment. The non- metallic implant assembly can be secured to underlying tissue by a fastener, such as a bone screw, that is capable of swelling on contact with fluid in the underlying tissue. Alternatively, the non-metallic implant assembly can be assembled intra-operatively using a fastener that is adhesively bonded to a bone plate or the bone plate can be deformed using heat, force or solvents to inhibit withdrawal of the fastener. In preferred embodiments, both the fastener and the bone plate are formed of biodegradable material.

L'invention concerne des implants orthopédiques (10, 50, 100, 140, 190, 250, 280, 300, 320, 340, 360, 370, 380, 400 and 440) ainsi que des procédés de traitements de défauts osseux. Elle concerne spécifiquement, mais non exclusivement, des implants non métalliques et des procédés peropératoires d'assemblage et de fixation d'implants orthopédiques destinés à faciliter un traitement médical. L'assemblage d'implant non métallique peut être fixé au tissu sous-jacent par une attache, telle qu'une vis pour os, pouvant se ramollir au contact d'un fluide dans le tissu sous-jacent. Dans une autre réalisation, l'assemblage d'implant non métallique peut être assemblé de manière peropératoire à l'aide d'une attache collée à une plaque vissée ou bien la plaque vissée peut être déformée thermiquement, par force ou par l'utilisation de solvants afin d'empêcher le retrait de l'attache. Dans des réalisations préférées, l'attache et la plaque vissée sont toutes les deux formées de matériau biodégradable.
