Non-thermoplastic starch fibers having no melting point and having apparent peak wet tensile stress greater than about 0.2 MegaPascals (MPa). The fibers can be manufactured from a composition comprising a modified starch and a cross-linking agent. The composition can have a shear viscosity from about 1 Pascal.OElig.Seconds to about 80 Pascal.OElig.Seconds and an apparent extensional viscosity in the range of from about 150 Pascal.OElig.Seconds to about 13,000 Pascal.OElig.Seconds. The composition can comprise from about 50% to about 75% by weight of a modified starch; from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of an aldehyde cross-linking agent; and from about 25% to about 50% by weight of water. Prior to cross-linking, the modified starch can have a weight average molecular weight greater than about 100,000 g/mol.
La présente invention concerne des fibres d'amidon non thermoplastiques ne possédant pas de point de fusion et possédant une contrainte de traction humide de crête apparente supérieure à environ 0,2 mégapascals (Mpa). On peut fabriquer ces fibres à partir d'une composition comprenant un amidon modifié et un agent de réticulation. Cette composition peut posséder un coefficient de viscosité de cisaillement compris entre environ 1 pascal *seconde et 80 pascals seconde et une viscosité de dilatation apparente comprise entre environ 150 pascals seconde et environ 13.000 pascals * seconde. Cette composition peut comprendre d'environ 50 % à environ 75 % en poids d'un amidon modifié, d'environ 25 % à environ 50 % en poids d'un agent de réticulation aldéhyde et d'environ 25 % à environ 50 % en poids d'eau. Avant la réticulation, l'amidon modifié peut posséder un poids moléculaire moyen supérieur à environ 100.000 g/mol.
