NON-THROMBOGENIC CATHETER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A catheter suitable for insertion into blood vessels has an outer surface which is anti-thrombogenic. Said surface presents carboxylic acid groups to blood in contact therewith, and as a result of ionization by release of protons when in contact with blood has a negative charge thereon. A catheter in accordance with the present invention, is non- thrombogenic and is essentially free of tendency to cause thrombophlebitis or periphlebitis, said properties being due, at least in part, to the presence of said negative charge on said surface when in contact with blood.
