A non-toxic highly frangible training round bullet (10), and a method of making same, in which a plurality of segments (14a, 14b, 14c and 14d) of non- toxic metal selected from a group including zinc, iron, steel and copper are grouped or arranged within pressure-molding equipment and sufficient pressure is applied thereto to cause such segments (14a, 14b, 14c and 14d) to inter- engage and cohere, one to another, while being formed into a desired shape of bullet and retaining their individuality at least to a limited extent. Upon impact with a target, such a bullet (10) fragments to a large extent along at least some of the original physical boundary lines of the original segments into new segments (17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22) which are relatively small as compared to the size of the original segments. There is no substantial ricocheting or "bounce-back" activity associated with such fragmentation and, of course, there are no toxic effects.
La présente invention, qui concerne une balle ronde (10) d'entraînement, hautement désintégrante et non toxique, concerne également un procédé de fabrication correspondant. Ce procédé consiste à assembler ou agencer plusieurs de segments (14a, 14b, 14c et 14d) en métaux non toxiques choisis dans un groupe réunissant le zinc, le fer, l'acier et le cuivre, dans un dispositif de moulage par pression et à exercer sur ces segments une pression suffisante pour que chacun d'entre eux (14a, 14b, 14c et 14d) s'interpénètrent, adhèrent les uns avec les autres, et prennent la forme d'une balle, tout en conservant leur individualité, au moins jusqu'à une certaine limite. Lors de l'impact contre une cible, une telle balle (10) se fragmente en suivant principalement certaines des limites physiques originales des segments originaux, formant ainsi de nouveaux segments (17, 18, 19, 20, 21 et 22) relativement petits par rapport aux segments originaux. Il n'y a aucun risque d'effet toxique, et telle fragmentation ne s'accompagne d'aucun effet notoire de ricochet ou de rebond.
