Non-woven fabric exhibiting a soft and a rough side, capable of retaining viscous or semi viscous fluids in its structure and releasing said fluids for cleaning and wiping or cleansing end uses. Said fabric contains a certain portion of thermoplastic fibers and can be either a homogenous web mechanically entangled or made from a fibrous structure containing fibers loosely bonded enough to be transferred through another layer and creating and intimate composite structure. The fabric is subjected to a heat treatment which is not affecting the integrity of the fabric and imparting desired roughness to one or both sides of the fabric. The roughness grade is measured with a friction apparatus and a Roughness Index is determined to validate suitability of the fabric for cleaning hard surfaces or cleansing skin.
