A mat having a highly uniform porosity distribution is produced by consolidating 15 or more layers of melt blown webs (or the like) having different orientations. Control over the porosity is provided by using webs that exhibit a narrow, unimodal distribution of fiber diameters over the bulk of its distribution, such as in the top 80%. A compliance of the mats can be chosen by selecting a number and orientation of the webs. It is thus possible to produce mats that are good candidates for vascular grafts, for example. The uniformity of the porosity within the range of 6 µm to 30 µm permits seeding of the vascular graft with endothelial and smooth muscle cells. The mats have the demonstrated ability to retain, and support growth of, smooth muscle cells. L'invention concerne un mat présentant une répartition de porosité extrêmement uniforme. Le mat est obtenu par consolidation de 15 couches ou plus de feuilles selon un procédé de fusion-soufflage (ou similaire) ayant des orientations différentes. L'utilisation de feuilles dont les diamètres des fibres présentent une répartition unimodale et étroite sur la majeure partie de leur répartition, à savoir plus de 80 %, permet de contrôler la porosité. La souplesse des mats peut être obtenue par sélection du nombre de feuilles et de leur orientation. Il est ainsi possible de produire des mats qui sont de bons candidats pour des greffes vasculaires, par exemple. Une porosité uniforme allant de 6 µm à 30 µm permet d'ensemencer la greffe vasculaire avec des cellules musculaires lisses et endothéliales. Les mats ont la capacité à retenir les cellules musculaires lisses et les cellules endothéliales et de soutenir leur croissance.
