ABSTRACT A non-woven textile material of synthetic fibres for use as a covering for liquid absorbant material with good run-off properties for movement of liquid to the absorbant material and also good properties against rewetting by liquid then held by the absorbant material. The cationic active surfactant is applied to the surface of the fibres or to the covering, and which is chemosorbable in cellulose in the absorbant layers. The surfactant has the general formula: Image where R1 to R4 are selected from alkyl-, aryl-, alkylaryl -, ethoxyl-, alkylethoxyl-, arylethoxyl- and/or alkylarylethoxyl- radicals and A is a suitable anion e.g. a halide.
