A carbon material for a secondary cell which is prepared by holding a specific petroleum-based heavy oil under a pressure of 2.0 MPa at a temperature of 400 to 600~C for 3 hours or more, to thereby form a precursor of the carbon material, and subjecting the precursor to a heat treatment at 800 to 1500~C; a precursor of the carbon material; and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell which uses, as a negative electrode active material, the above carbon material or another preferable carbon material prepared by further subjecting the above carbon material to an oxidizing treatment in nitrogen, argon, or a mixed gas thereof containing an oxidizing gas or the in the atmosphere at 200 to 1000~C. The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell uses a carbon material prepared from a petroleum-based heavy oil being available at a low cost, has a high capacity, and is excellent in cycle characteristics at a high temperature.
Cette invention concerne un matériau carboné utilisé dans une pile secondaire et préparé selon un procédé consistant à maintenir une huile lourde à base de pétrole spécifique sous une pression de 2,0 MPa à une température de 400 à 600 ·C pendant au moins 3 heures afin qu'un précurseur du matériau carboné soit formé, puis à soumettre le précurseur à un traitement thermique à une température comprise entre 800 et 1500 ·C. Cette invention concerne également un précurseur du matériau carboné ainsi qu'une pile secondaire à électrolyte non aqueux qui utilise, comme matériau actif d'électrode négative, le matériau carboné susmentionné ou un autre matériau carboné préféré préparé selon un procédé consistant à soumettre le matériau carboné susmentionné à un traitement d'oxydation dans de l'azote, de l'argon ou un mélange de ces gaz contenant un gaz oxydant ou dans une atmosphère dont la température est comprise entre 200 et 1000 ·C. La pile secondaire à électrolyte non aqueux de cette invention utilise un matériau carboné préparé à partir d'une huile lourde à base de pétrole disponible à faible coût, bénéficie d'une grande capacité et présente d'excellentes caractéristiques cycliques à haute température.
