Nonazide gas generating compositions are formed from a nonzazide fuel, an oxidizer, and a heat absorbing additive in the form of a glass compound having a softening point in excess of approximately 590 ~C (1094 ~F). The additive effects a reduction in the combustion temperature of the gas generant, thereby resulting in inflating gases having a reduced content of toxic gases such as NOx and CO. The gas generants are therefore nontoxic and useful for inflating a vehicle occupant restraint system.

Des compositions générant des gaz non azides sont obtenues à partir d'un combustible non azide, d'un agent d'oxydation, et d'un additif absorbant la chaleur se présentant sous la forme d'un composé de verre dont le point de ramollissement dépasse approximativement 590 ~C (1094 ~F). L'additif réduit la température de combustion de l'agent produisant des gaz, ce qui entraîne la production de gaz de gonflage présentant une teneur réduite en gaz toxiques, tels que No¿x? et CO. Les agents produisant des gaz sont par conséquent non toxiques et utiles pour gonfler un dispositif de retenue des occupants d'un véhicule.
