ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE . A series of dideoxyribonucleoside methyl phosphonate analogs, d-NpN and d-NpNp, which contain a nonionic 3'-5' methyl phosphonyl internucleoside linkage have been prepared. The two diastereoisomers of each dimer differ in configuration of the methyl phosphonate group and are separated by column chromato- graphy. The analogs interact with complementary cellular or viral nucleic acids with the objective of controlling or regulating the function or expression of the cellular or viral nucleic acids.
