Electrolysis using a suitable electrolyte provides a completely nonsludging zinc phosphate conversion coating process that produces a high quality conversion coating in a very short time. The suitable electrolyte contains at least water, dissolved nitric acid, and dissolved zinc cations and optionally also contains m chemically distinct species of cations other than zinc and n chemically distinct species of anions other than anions derivable by ionization of phosphoric and nitric acids, each of m and n independently being zero or a positive integer. Preferably, the liquid composition contains as additive at least one selection from nitrous acid, permanganic acid, peroxysulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, chloric acid, perchloric acid, nitrobenzenesulfonic acid, hydroxylamine, starch/phosphoric acid esters, fluorine compounds, and salts of the preceding; and/or the metal substrate is subjected to cathodic electrolysis after the workpiece has been brought into contact with a weakly basic aqueous colloidal solution that contains titanium oxide, titanium hydroxide, and zinc phosphate.
L'invention concerne une électrolyse, utilisant un électrolyte adéquat, qui offre un procédé de revêtement par conversion de phosphate de zinc, n'entraînant aucun encrassage. Le procédé produit un revêtement par conversion en très peu de temps. L'éléctrolyte adéquat contient au moins de l'eau, un acide nitrique dissolu et des cations de zinc dissolus, et, éventuellement m espèces de cations chimiquement distinctes, autres que le zinc, et n espèces d'anions chimiquement distinctes, autres que des anions pouvant être dérivés par ionisation d'acides phosphoriques et nitriques, m et n étant indépendamment zéro ou un nombre entier positif. La composition liquide contient, de préférence, comme additif au moins un élément sélectionné parmi l'acide nitrique, l'acide de permanganates, l'acide peroxomonosulfurique, le peroxyde d'hydrogène, l'acide chlorique, l'acide perchlorique, l'acide nitrobenzenesulfonique, l'hydroxylamine, des esters d'amidon/d'acide phosphorique, des composés de fluor et des sels des éléments précités. Le substrat métallique est en outre soumis à une électrolyse cathodique après contact de la pièce avec une solution colloïdale aqueuse faiblement basique contenant de l'oxyde de titane, de l'hydroxyde de titane et du phosphate de zinc.
