A norbornane type ester hydrolase that enantio-selectively hydrolyzes a (~)-exo-norbornane type ester represented by Formula I is provided: (see fig. I) wherein R is acyl, and A and B are hydrogens, respectively, or where A and B are absent, resulting in a carbon-carbon double bond between the carbons to which A and B are attached in Formula I. The norbornane type ester hydrolase has an optimal pH of approximately 8 and a stable pH range of approximately 6 to 8.

Une ester-hydrolase de type norbornane qui hydrolyse sélectivement un mélange racémique des énantiomères (±) d'un ester de type exo-norbornane représenté par la formule I est dévoilée : (voir fig. I), dans laquelle R est un acyle, et A et B sont des atomes d'hydrogène, respectivement ou, lorsque A et B sont absents, une double liaison carbone-carbone relie les carbones auxquels A et B sont fixés dans la formule I. La réaction de l'ester-hydrolase de type norbornane est optimale à un pH d'environ 8, tandis que son activité est stable dans une gamme de pH d'environ 6 à 8.
