A notification system for enhancing the ability of a pager to notify its user has a sending unit which is secured to the pager. The system also uses a receiving unit which is secured to an article of clothing of the user. The sending unit has a motion sensor and transmitter to detect vibration of the pager and emit a transmission signal. The transmission signal is remotely detected by the receiving unit and converted into a power signal. An output device, such as an electroluminescent strip on the clothing of the user, uses the power signal to generate an external, flashing light which is readily detected by the user.
