Novel 1-(biphenyl-4-yl)methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazoles and 1-(biphenyl-4-yl)methyl- 4H-1,2,4-triazoles each having a (2,4-dioxopyrrolidine-5-ylidene)methyl or (2,4-dioxotetrahydrofuran-5-ylidene)methyl group as the substituent at the 2'- position, salts thereof, and medicines containing these compounds as the active ingredient. These compounds are lowly toxic and highly safe and are useful as an angiotensin II antagonist.

Nouveaux 1-(biphényl-4-yl)méthyl-1H-1,2,4-triazoles et 1-(biphényl-4-yl)méthyl-4H-1,2,4-triazoles comprenant chacun un groupe (2,4-dioxopyrrolidine-5-ylidène)méthyle ou (2,4-dioxotétrahydrofurane-5-ylidène)méthyle en tant que substituant en position 2', leurs sels et médicaments comprenant lesdits composés en tant que composant actif. Lesdits composés présentent une faible toxicité, sont remarquablement sûrs et peuvent s'utiliser comme un antagoniste de l'angiotensine II.
