A process for making a tertiary amine ester of formula (I), the process comprising: (a) reacting a ketone or an aldehyde having formula (III) with a glycol to form a ketal or an acetal; (b) reacting the ketal or the acetal with acrylonitrile to form an ether nitrile; (c) reducing the ether nitril to a tertiary amine ketal or a tertiary amine acetal; (d) hydrolyzing the tertiary amine ketal or the tertiary amine acetal to a tertiary amine diol; and (e) esterifying the tertiary amine diol to the tertiary amine ester of formula (I), wherein R1 and R2 are each independently a hydrogen atom or a linear, branched, or cyclic alkyl, alkylene, alkaryl, or aryl-containing group containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms; and each R3 are each independently of one another fatty acid radicals having 6-22 carbon atoms. The process may optionally include the further step of: (f) protonating or quaternizing the tertiary amine ester of formula (I) to a protonated or quaternary amine ester of formula (II) wherein A- is an inorganic or organic anion.
La présente invention concerne un procédé d'obtention d'un ester d'amine tertiaire représenté par la formule générale (I). On commence (a) par faire réagir un cétone ou un aldéhide représenté par la formule spécifique (III) avec un glycol de façon à fromer un cétal ou un acétal. On fait ensuite (b) réagir le cétal ou l'acétal avec un acrulonitrile de façon à former un éther-nitrile. Par (c) réduction de l'éther-nitrile, on obtient un amine-cétal tertiaire ou un amine-acétal tertiaire. On hydrolyse ensuite (d) en diol d'amine tertiaire l'amine-cétal tertiaire ou l'amine-acétal tertiaire, et on estérifie le diol d'amine tertiaire en amine-ester tertiaire représenté par la formule générale (I) dans laquelle R?1¿ et R?2¿ sont chacun intépendamment atome d'hydrogène ou un alkyle linéaire, ramifié ou cyclique, un alkylène, un alcaryle, ou un groupe arylé en C¿1?-C¿18?. En outre, les différents R?3¿ sont chacun indépendamment l'un de l'autre des radicaux d'acides gras en C¿6?-C¿22?. Le procédé peut également comporter une dernière opération de (f) protonation ou de quaternarisation de l'amine-ester tertiaire représenté par la formule générale (I) donnant un amine-ester protoné ou quaternaire représenté par la formule suivante (II) dans laquelle A?-¿ est un anion inorganique ou organique.
