The invention presented is an apparatus specifically designed for the high rate anaerobic treatment of (waste)waters with relatively high concentrations of lipidic compounds, referred to as the Inverted Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (IASB) reactor. Contrary to conventional anaerobic reactors, it avoids the need of sludge with good settling properties and exploits the problem of sludge flotation due to long chain fatty acid (LCFA) or biogas adsorption onto the sludge and/or biogas encapsulation by the sludge. Furthermore, it provides an increased specific sludge surface area for better LCFA degradation. It is fed from the top and is equipped with a separation step at the bottom. Reactor contents are thoroughly mixed by the novel combined action of a gas lift loop and a liquid recycle over the reactor. The reactor can be operated in continuous and sequential mode. Although it is specifically designed for lipid degradation, its application is not limited to this.
L'invention concerne un appareil spécifiquement conçu pour le traitement anaérobie à haut rendement d'eaux (usées) contenant des concentrations relativement élevées de composés lipidiques, cet appareil étant désigné réacteur à lit de boue anaérobie inverse (IASB). Contrairement aux réacteurs anaérobies classiques, il ne nécessite pas de boues à bonnes propriétés de décantation et il fait face au problème de flottation de la boue due à l'adsorption d'acide gras à chaîne longue (LCFA) ou de biogaz sur la boue et/ou de l'encapsulation du biogaz par la boue. En outre, il agrandit la surface de boue spécifique pour une meilleure dégradation du LCFA. Ce réacteur est alimenté par le haut et équipé d'un niveau de séparation au fond. Les contenus du réacteurs sont complètement mélangés par l'action combinée d'une boucle d'ascension de gaz et d'un recyclage liquide par le réacteur, lequel peut fonctionner en continu ou en mode séquentiel. Bien que conçu spécialement pour la dégradation lipidique, ledit réacteur ne se limite pas à cette application.
