A negative electrode (12) for a non-aqueous electrochemical cell (10) with an intermetallic host structure containing two or more elements selected from the metal elements and silicon, capable of accommodating lithium within its crystallographic host structure such that when the host structure is lithiated it transforms to a lithiated zinc-blende-type structure. Both active elements (alloying with lithium) and inactive elements (non-alloying with lithium) are disclosed. Electrochemical cells and batteries as well as methods of making the negative electrode are disclosed.
L'invention concerne une électrode négative (12) conçue pour une cellule (10) électrochimique non-aqueuse qui a une structure hôte intermétallique disposant au moins de deux éléments sélectionnés parmi les éléments métalliques et le silicium. Ladite électrode peut contenir du lithium au sein de sa structure hôte crystallographique, de manière que lorsque la structure hôte contient du lithium, elle se transforme en une structure de type blende contenant du lithium. Cette invention concerne également des éléments actifs (s'alliant au lithium) et des éléments inactifs (ne s'alliant pas au lithium), des piles et des cellules électrochimiques, ainsi que des procédés de fabrication de l'électrode négative.
