The present invention provides a bacteriocin having a molecular weight of about 4.4 kDa and methods involving the use of this bacteriocin. The bateriocin preferably has an amino acid sequence as shown in Figure 3. The present invention also provides a DNA molecule encoding this bacteriocin.
