A novel derivative of caffeic acid has formula (I) where one or several R independently represent a hydrogen atom, a C1-C5 alkyl group, particularly methyl, an acyl group, particularly C1-C6, specifically acetyl. This novel derivative designated oraposide is particularly useful for preparing cosmetic or pharmaceutical, particularly dermatological, compositions due particularly to its activity against free radicals, inflammation and actinic ageing.
