A novel class of cationic phospholipids and novel method for their synthesis are disclosed. The class of phospholipids comprises phosphotriester derivatives of phosphoglycerides and sphingolipids. It has been unexpectedly found that liposomes comprising one or more of these cationic phospholipids are effective in the lipofection of nucleic acids. These novel phospholipids are particularly attractive because they are not only effective in lipofection, but are extremely cheap and easy to make.

Cette classe de phospholipides comprend des dérivés phosphotriester de phosphoglycérides et de sphingolipides. Il a été découvert que, contre toute attente, des liposomes comprenant au moins un de ces phospholipides cationiques permettent d'assurer efficacement la transfection par liposomes d'acides nucléiques. Ces nouveaux phospholipides sont particulièrement avantageux, non seulement parce qu'ils assurent efficacement la transfection par liposomes, mais également parce qu'ils sont très peu coûteux et faciles à produire.
